The Mediterranean diet.
More than a diet: a way of life.

Inspired by the traditional diet from the Greek islands of Crete and Corfu, the "Mediterranean diet" may be better understood as a lifestyle. In fact in 2013, UNESCO recognized its importance and uniqueness by including it in its representative list of humanity masterpieces of the oral and intangible heritage.

Interest for this type of food appeared in the 50s following research done by Ancel Keys called “The Seven Countries Study”. Essentially, the study highlighted that despite a high fat consumption, the residents of the Greek islands had a very low rate of coronary disease. In the years that followed, other studies have confirmed these findings and popularity for this way of eating has grown.

The guidelines related to this lifestyle are simple enough to implement and follow at home. Moreover, it is not about deprivation of food but rather to give priority to certain types of foods, vary the ingredients, emphasize freshness and maintain movement.
So what does it take to become a follower of the Mediterranean diet?

It’s really quite simple: limit red meat consumption to a few times a month; limit chicken, eggs and sweets to a few times a week; eat a lot of fish, fruits, vegetables, grain products, nuts, legumes, yogurt and cheese; drink red wine sparingly; use olive oil and be active.

In addition to its benefits to the cardiovascular system, the Mediterranean diet can reduce some cancer risks, promote healthy weight management and reduce the incidence of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.

Fountain of health offers a wide range of all natural products that are conducive to a healthy lifestyle.

Bon appétit!
