Reducing food waste, a great idea!

As we approach the holiday season it is interesting to question the year that is coming to an end - to take stock of our virtues and vices. It is also a time to make resolutions. In 2017, why not rethink our eating habits that are at the root of real waste?
According to a study published in 2010 by the Value Chain Management Center (VCMC), up to half of the food stored in the refrigerator ends up in the trash.

Beyond the waste of products and the clogging of landfills that contribute to the emission of greenhouse gases, food waste also impacts the environment through unnecessary use of resources such as water, arable land, transport and packaging.
Although food waste is present throughout the production, distribution and the consumption chain, it is possible for you to make a difference just by changing certain habits at home:

Plan ahead and buy only what's on your list

By planning out your meals, it is easier to determine what will actually be needed throughout the week. You can also target more effectively the items you specifically need and therefore avoid buying too much. You will be pleasantly surprised to find that in addition to better consuming the food you buy, you will also make substantial savings.

Be creative and use your food differently

The carrots you bought to snack on have softened? Put them in a soup. The kids are tired of eating clementines and your crate is almost full? Mix them with other fruits and add some yogurt to serve them in a smoothie. You will quickly realize that in re-purposing food, you will reduce your waste while keeping the family well-fed and happy.

Freeze the leftovers

Have you spent precious time preparing a delicious meal for the entire household only to end up with half of it uneaten? Instead of throwing the leftovers in the trash, immediately freeze them in individual portions, this way you’ll have a delicious meal to enjoy on a night where you don’t feel like cooking.

Fountain of Health is pleased to offer its consumers products of irreproachable freshness. We comply with the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards - the highest standard in terms of food safety. Our Quality Control and R & D teams are working hard using state-of-the-art technologies to offer you healthy products without the addition of any preservatives, just like you do at home.
If, however, you have bought one of our products and you have forgotten it in the back of the fridge, or you have organized a dinner party and you realize that you have bought too much food, you should know that freezing them can be an option. All of our Hummus products can be frozen. So, no more waste!

We wish you all a wonderful holiday season
and a New Year full of happiness and health!

I really enjoy your hummus but I can’t find a recycling mark on the container lid and was wondering if it is recycleable. I really hope so!! Thanks

      Hi Sheri,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write to us! We apologize for the delay in response but to answer your question – yes, our lid is recyclable.

We use a specialized printing technique for our containers called in-mould labelling (IML) which combines the decorating process with the moulding process. This technology helps us to produce 100% recyclable and sustainable products which do not contain any solvents or hazardous chemicals that you may find in other adhesive techniques.

If you have any other questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

      Best regards,
